Problem with Eircom email

I'm having a lot of trouble lately in the afternoons with email.
Mornings and evenings are fine, but afternoons Mailwasher and Outlook express are having problems connecting to the mail server.
It can take five or six attempts to send an email. Once it connects, the mail goes through all right.
It's been getting worse since the beginning of January.
Is it just a traffic issue?
I'm loath to ring Eircom and go through the 'restart your PC - restart your router' routine. It's happening on more than one pc.

I experience this problem regularly at various times of the day, and yes, it has been quite bad since January.

I access eircom mail using Outlook express (at home) and Webmail (at work), and have had problems with both.

Maybe they're looking into the major spam problem they've got....friend of mine has had to scrap his eircom.net account because of the amount of spam he got, and I get several messages per day offering to sell me "personal enhancements"

You're lucky I was getting them for most of last year - and I'm the wrong sex! Since I invested in MailWasher Pro they are down to a few per day or none but if any do get through while I'm using O.E. I enter every possible address into the M.W. blacklist. It was well worth the cost and I found the people in MW very helpful when anything went wrong in the beginning.

I can't say I've noticed any real problem (use eircom as incoming mail server) but on a few occasions M.W. went awol downloading and deleting but it's OK now. I've also noticed most spam is sent during the night so likely they're coming from "down under". I'd love to know what happens when spam is blacklisted and reported? Do the senders know that has happened?

I've also had lots of problems with my Eircom e-mail over the last month or so. Small timeouts, and sometimnes I lose Internet access for a few seconds.

Is there anywhere you can check their service status? If they're having problems in certain areas of the country it would be nice to be told.

If you have Norton Antivirus, your email can be severely messed about on Outlook Express. Best to check whether your email is working okay via the web on www.eircom.net. If thats okay and you're not using Norton/Symantic then the settings may be on the Outlook application.
