hi

just before Christmas we spent 1300 on new internal doors for downstairs from a well established company.

The loo door wont lock and the kitchen door is extremely squeaky...have oiled it but the problem is the way the door is hung.

have rang 3 times and the company keep tellling me the guy is on hols etc

am getting very fed up as we have visitors next week and want them to be able to use the downstairs loo without fear of someone walking in on top of them!

what can I do?

thanks!

I would be writing to the company telling them that I would be getting the problems sorted and would be billing them for the cost. I would also be asking if they knew the cost of adverse publicity in these times.

Small Claims Court might be required if they don't respond to the above.

How many doors did you get supplied and fitted for €1300?

ONQ.

thanks for the replies. its so frustrating but i have been told they will now get someone out to me on Tuesday which is great.

think it could be our fault though...on the invoice its says that they have to be varnished straight away but they didnt bring this to my attention at the time (there is loads of stuff at the end of the invoice!) so it could be that the cold / heat is damaging them....according to the man i spoke to yesterday. If they had told me I would have put it off til after Christmas as there is no way i would have even tried to varnish 7 doors the week before Christmas. Anyway hopefully they wont charge for the call out!

onq...got 7 doors....2 into the sitting room have glass in them.

If you got 7 doors bought, hung and fitted for €1300 you seem to have gotten a vary fair price without little "fat" in it to support them doing call outs - that's why I asked. :)

That, however, is the supplier's responsibility. Low prices do not mean that a supplier can eschew legal obligations. [Somebody should explain that to Ryanair.]

Tell them that you will phone the Joe Duffy Radio Show if it is not sorted soon.

That should get them moving.

What legal obligations are you refeering to? What is the supplier's responsibility?

The poster has already suggested that it's probably her own fault

First off, I was replying to ONQ's point in a general way, and not attempting to judge whether ssm had a valid complaint.

Secondly, there is room to argue about whether ssm is at fault. I spoke to a professional painter about the question of varnishing new doors without delay, and he told me that it made no significant difference to anything.

The doors have been hanging for two months now. With the cold snap i suspect that there was plenty of heat in the house lately. Doors that havent been sealed would certainly contract in heat. On the other hand they would also expand if cold moist conditions were prevelant
