Does 420Euro sound a good price to have floor in attic insulated, they said they will put insulation on top of exsisitng insulation ,basic 3 bed semi, 300 mm thick.

Yeah, leaving the existing in place is the lazy option. Ideally they should remove it, insulate properly, and then they could place the old insulation over this to save on disposal.

if the old insulation is not wet and in good shape otherwise this is the way to go, it utilizes the old and gives you added thermal resistance. as for the price i would let them do it for 399 tell them you have had this as an offer, good luck

also the other 2 posters are correct in the sense that the installer needs to ensure that there are no gaps in the old insualtion before the new stuff goes on top. again if it is done by a reputable co. then going over the old is a good option

Thanks, just other people said they should putnew down then relay old on top not the other way what you think. what SQ metre of insulation is needed for standard 3 bed semi, thanks

Are they laying under a floored attic, as in, is the attic floor sheeted with underlying insulation. Basically companies will charge on average €35 - €45 per hour per person and travel time, mark up on materials should be about 25% to cover Collection and delivery. They may charge you €20-€30 for sundries (disposable overalls & gloves)
Any decent building service firm will supply you with labour only, go to your local Builders merchants give them the measurements they will provide you with the insulation materials. Get an extra roll; but ask them if they will take it back and refund you if it is not needed. The reason for this is firms will charge you for down time if you do not have enough Materials.
If you are going to the trouble of insulating your attic, dont forget the pipework and tanks too, very very important, measure the pipe runs and the tank dimensions too.

You will save money this way but it requires a little work on your behalf.

I got my house which is a standard 3 bed 60m squared done for 300 euro. They also used Rockwool instead of fibreglass. I rang around all the usual and the price was between 400/500 euro.
