Preliminary Tax 2011 - pay by direct debit?

Hi! This is the first year I've had a preliminary tax liability. My accountant says I need to pay my preliminary tax for 2011 now. I wanted to pay my preliminary tax for 2011 (not 2010 tax) by direct debit. However, when I filled in the direct debit form, it said they were collecting preliminary tax now for 2012. Should I have started the direct debit last year for preliminary tax in 2011 - I'm really confused! Any advice would be really welcome!

something wrong here -- is this income tax or CT ---what is your accounting period?

Hi! Wind-up, thanks for your reply. My tax for 2010 which is just made up of health levy and USC, is e2200. I am living on rental income and have a S 23 property in a far flung part of Ireland! My accountant wants me also to pay 2011 preliminary tax of e2200. This would bring my total tax bill to e4,400. At the moment I can't afford that. I wanted to pay the preliminary tax for 2011 by direct debit, but it seems according to the direct debit forms that they are only collecting preliminary tax for 2011 in November and December 2011, and that the rest of the direct debits for preliminary tax will be for 2012 - so that is my questions - should I have started direct debit for preliminary tax (though I didn't have any) for 2011 in 2010? Thanks.

yes- afraid so per the attached

do you have any indication if your income will be less by any chance for 2011? rents down? or any other factors? as only 90% of the liability needs to be prepaid

OR what was your liability in 2009? one of the options is:
105% of the pre-preceding year for Direct Debit payers only (this option does not apply where the Income Tax payable for the pre-preceding year was NIL).
