Pregnant IT contractor rights

Hi,
I am an IT contractor working with the same company for 4.5 years. My contract will expire during my planned maternity absence. I have been verbally promised my job on return. Do I have any statutory rights to ensure my position on return?

Also, I have heard that after 5 years of employment as a contractor I may be legally entitled to be given a full-time position. If so, will being absent for maternity leave affect my right?

Just wondering if there's anything I should be doing before I leave which will help my position for when I go back to work.

Many thanks

Have never heard contractors have to be made permanent after 5 years, you should check this with

If you have worked 4 consecutive years on contract, you have rights , but would need to check the contracts you have signed to understand your position.

If no contracts, you should contact
