Prefixes for this forum?

Would it be an idea to break down the trades, e.g. plasterers, carpenters, etc. into their own headings. Seems to be a lot of overlapping and the potential for more. If its any help I could come up with a fairly comprehensive breakdown of trades. Posters would have to specify the area.

Hi Baldyman, give it a go and let's see how it works. I will set up Prefixes for them.

Alternatively, I could set up prefixes for locations.



I could set up prefixes as follows:

Dublin
Cork
Nationwide
Rest of Ireland
 
I have set up a few trades and edited the titles.

If you scroll to the end of the page on the forum, you can sort by prefix e.g. "Window".

On balance, I think that Location would be better as trades don't fall neatly into categories.

Agreed, some trades/services do overlap too. I'll break down the various components of a house build and any other services that would be useful to a self-builder (as this forum would probably be most viewed by such people) and post here. If there's anything else you'd like me to include I can expand then.
 
I realised after a while that this list could be endless so for the moment I just picked what seemed to me the most common and relevant. I hope I'm posting in such a way that you'll be able to work from it.

There is obviously potential for expansion, will think of more in time. Hope this is of some use.

It's a huge list which might be difficult to work with in practice. As these are prefixes, some of the longer ones will take up most of the thread titel.

Which do you think is better - trades or location?

Is carpenter/roofer really the same category? I would have thought that they were two completely separate trades.

Wouldn't have though that particular trade would be in much demand :)

BOT, I think breakdown by City/Large town (Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Athlone, Waterford, Kilkenny, Drogheda) and then Province would be ideal.
