Pre Pay Broadband

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a Pre Pay Broadband modem to use
sporadically for work in Dublin and for abroad in Europe.

I've looked at the 3 Pre Pay Broadband package which
looks quite good.

Does anyone have an alternative or something similar to this
that you would recommend or are 3Mobile the best offer out
there?

Thanks.

I have to say my 3 experience for mobile bb was shocking
Check out the link for more details, [broken link removed]

I had to switch to another provider

I have been using the normal post pay 3 product now for the past 8-9 months or so. The price is €20pm. (Compared to O2/Vodafone's €30pm)

A few points about my experience...

> Yes it is true that it never really hits anything close to broadband speeds. It's usually about 200kps - 300kps.
> In my areas of use, coverage is actually quite good - places I have used it successfully: Santry, Mullingar, Longford, Edgeworthstown, and Maynooth.
> Of these, I find Dublin to be slower than the rest.
> In Mullingar speeds often hit 1.2mps - 1.5mps
> Often I use the 3 modem from 9am in the morning virtually non stop till 11pm at night and it has never really failed.
> Speed slows significantly from 6pm - 10pm as evening traffic builds.
> So far i've never exceeded more than half my download limit, despite watching lots of video and using the thing 24/7.

So in general the product works fairly ok - yes it is slow compared to broadband - but it works on the go, has a great download limit and is much cheaper than the incumbants offerings.

I urge you to read the thread on boards.ie before signing up for three.

I had an absolute horrible time with them, and that is replicated by the people contributing to that thread.

Thanks

I dont put a lot of credence to whats said on boards.ie, Any way its PrePay we are talking about so what would we be signing up for???

I am only passing on my experence, buy what you like.

The Prepay is just new, out a fortnight ago along with a new modem, so I dont have any experience.

Do a google search for 3 mobile broadband, then do a search for O2 or Vodafone, compare your results.

After my experience with the awful three, I swore to spread the word. Anyhow thats all I will say on the subject

Like I said I am trying it at the moment. Still havnt had any problems...
Dont think you should critisize if you have no experience of it

Colm, I had three mobile broadband for 5 months, for 2 months it had 0.0 download speed. I eventually got my contract cancelled. The current offering is the same only they now have a pre pay option, same technology, just a different payment option.

I'm confused...
Anyway just to repeat... Working fine no problems.
I am simply stating i find the service good. You obviousally had a bad experience with them,I am not doubting that .. these things happen.

Agreed - people with a bad experience are always far nosier than those with positive ones. Sure the service has been poor for many - but a huge number have also benifited from a very cheap portable broadband service.

Have to say I was using it yesterday in the middle of nowhere, 20 miles outside trim. Perfect signal & top speeds.
