How much would be a fair price for a post and rail fence, about 110m approx , Carlow Area

Materials only or erected? The Farm Relief Services (FRS) organisation should be able to give you an accurate figure.

BTW, if the fence is supposed to stock-proof, I don't think post and rail will do.

FRS Charge in the region of €12.50 a meter for three rail 4X2 and 6X4 posts, i could not find anyone cheaper its quite a good price! I decided to pay someone to do it for me as its a tough job to do without the right equipment! They had 80 meters done in four hours!

Hi,

I got FRS to put up post and rail fence 15 years ago and it is still standing. Regarding being stock proof it you want to keep lambs out put chicken wire or similar on last rail down to the ground - for cattle barbed wire or get farmer to put electric fence on his side.

For stock proofing mine i bought 12" pigtails fixed these on every third post on the top rail and rain electric horse tape through and joined this on either end with the farmers electric fence works a treat €40 for 70m pigtails and tape!

I was quoted€18+VAT from frs. This was for 4 rail and 290mtrs!

For a stock fence approx 115 metres long, I paid €700 2 years ago for supply and fit.

Secman

I am also in the (Rathvilly)Carlow area, I got 3 bar post and rail for 14euro a metre, I also got 4 bar last year from the same lad, was either 17 or 18 a metre, that includes materials...
PM me if you want his number

BTW: Absolutely no connection with the lads that do it

I'm in the Laois area up on the Kildare side, I've a requirement for about 900ft X 3 rail fencing for around a house. I'll be getting an electric fence moved to outside the fence. Looking at this FRS seem to be good value, though that lad in Carlow looks good value. Is the timber 'dipped' though or is it likely to last the 8 years and no more? Stevo2006 - did you go for that? Whats it like?
