Porch

I'm looking to put a porch on my 3 bed semi. Already has a roof over the front door, so just need to enclose it. Any idea how much this sort of job costs?

Sorry for being more curious than helpful, but why would you want one?

They are less common now than they were 10 years ago, and the new house I have just bought happens to have one, but not sure why?

I guess it is the practical benefit of enabling people to step in out of the rain while they're waiting for you to open the front door, as well as the fact that the double door will minimise heat loss.

I think they look crap, but if there is a good practical reason for having one, I won't complain.

I can understand the need for a larger enclosed porch - I would love one in my house for somewhere to put buggies, umbrellas, hang coats etc. All these things currently clog up my hallway.

its a great idea still. we got one last year and it made a huge difference to the heat in the hallway. eden aluminium - front only without roof or side panel - €1200 ish. i would have no hesitation recommending them.

Did a search on Porches (and came up with this blast from the past) as I would like to build one on to the front of my house I have the roof and one side wall already in red brick I would like to have as little aluminium as possible so am afraid if I go to a conservatory provider I will end up with something like the aluminium porches in front of some of my neighbours houses. Not slagging off the neighbours but just not my personal taste I would like it to fit into my house frontage. I live in Limerick so would appreciate it if anyone got a simular job done who you could recommend.
