Porcelain tiles for hall your opinions or advice please

Hi Folks
We are currently pricing tiles for our Hallway. I looked at a few different samples yesterday I brought home some Travertine Tile Samples. Very nice but also very expensive. Went back to right price tiles today. Picked up a sample of
Polished Porcelain. €24.99 per square yard. Now what I need to know from those of you that have put down these tiles in your home what are the pros&cons
Any tips / advice you can offer please do. In the current climate we cannot afford to make too many mistakes the reason we are putting down new tiles in the first place is our house is old and we had a leak from ensuite which damaged maple floor in hall so I have opted for tiles! So any tilers out there are these a no no. I guess your advice would be appreciated.

cons,check with shop as you may need to buy cleaning and sealing agents, get them to specify, as then they are liable, as some polished porcelain needs sealing if not it will irrepairably stain. black tile in hall hard to keep as any moisture turns whitish. the bigger the tile the better your floor has to be, hence large tile may require levelling of floor. recommend flexi adhesive, dearer but best,tiling per yard depending on sealing or not will cost 20 to 30e. only buy tiles of RP ., pros, lovely tile, long lasting, no prob once done right

Currently getting work done myself and tiler said to steer clear of porcelain, particularly polished porcelain, for kitchen/high wear area. Said it stains badly as the nature of the polishing process opens up the tile and makes it porus. Also requires a lot of ongoing maintenance/sealing/cleaning. Suggested marble was a better alternative (but ceramic best of all from a maintenance/wear perspective), but is defo more expensive. If you push a crowd called granite and marble suppliers (I think that's what they're called) in Coolock, they'll do a deal on crema marfil for around €40 m2, which I thought was a steal.

we had a post on this a couple of weeks ago, and the advice was yes i love them or no i hate them in equal measures, the choice is yours, im still undecided, but if i do go for them i will be getting them from woof.ie, i got a sample from him €17.95 sq/yd and showed it to my tiler who said it is the exact same as the one from another supplier for €35 sq/yd i am not connected in any way with any supplier
