Hi,

I received a private message from another member
who claimed he was a journalist who covers consumer topics.
He wanted to know if I would be interested in discussing the
problem I had with unwanted texts.

Anyone else receive a "pm"?.

I recieved a similar message the time of the 'NCT' scandal that was talked about

Aj, had a look at the posting guidelines and I don't
think any guidelines have been breached, I just don't know if
the member is genuine or not.
If they are I have no problem providing input for their work as I
think any work uncovering scams etc. can only benefit us all.

Smashbox, do you mind me asking, what did you do?.

If the only contact details are by PM, then I would not respond. You probably should report the PM as AJ suggested.

If they gave their real world contact details e.g. name and newspaper and phone number, then I would imagine it's genuine.

Journalists don't want to post a public message saying "We are investigating NCT" so they send PMs.

I got PM'd by a journalist here once about some savings I made in the changes in stamp duty in a budget.
Once they gave they're name & phone number then you can just ring them to clarify things.
Or ring the paper & ask to speak to them if you're still in doubt.
 
i've had a number of PM's from journalists about some topics I have raised.

Each person had given their contact details, name and phone number and were 100% genuine.
 
Priscilla, I ignored it. No contact details or any details at all, and with 0 posts, so I just deleted it.

I just took your advice and reported the "pm" as I wasn't sure if he was genuine or not as he didn't include any contact information although he did offer to forward them on if needed.
