Plumbing labour costs....HELP

I wanted to change rads in my house - 7 in total plus TRVs. The existing rads are very old (gun barrell). What I'm trying to establish is how much work is involved - this is a standard 3 bed semi with wooden floors, around 90 sq meters.

One person I met today told me that rads would cost about €240 each and about €50-60 for each TRV - I'm not impressed! I called a builders providers today and was quoted around €700 for 8 Stelgrad rads plus TRVs whu makes a joke of the €240 which was not for anything fancy.

So, now I want to get a quote for labour only and I will supply materials. Any idea how much work should be involved in this (4-5 days???) and approximate price per day? Location is North Dublin.

Any help would be appreeiciated

€300 inc TRV, I can only asssume the person who told you this is not working in the business.

Do you mean the pipes leading to rads are gun barrell? Depends on what you want done with the rad legs, want them changed to copper? is this an option?

If your stick with the GB pipe and use extension's to make up differance between new radiator and old. It would take a plumber and helper a day, day and a half max. Bear in mind that GB TRV's may be hard to get and more expensive than the normal TRV (€17)

Ensure that inhibitor is added once system is refilled, this is a chemical liquid that prevent corrosion and sludge build up.

Thanks Davey - much appreciated and thanks for the tip on the inhibitor. Any idea what would be a reasonable price for the 7 rads, the TRVs and the labour?

Not Familar with Dublin prices, but I would price it for €1220 + VAT.

€120 per rad inc radaitor, TRV and convertor, from GB to copper. It would mean your radiators are hung slighty higher than now.

€350 Labour, It would need to be complete in one day, returning on a second day would may draining and refilling system, time consuming work.

€30 for inhibitor.

Having GB piping makes the job more complicated.

If you wanted the old radiators to be taken by installer, this would be extra. Our local recycle place charge around €15 to dump there, plus time.

Hi Davey, probably a long shot but.... would you consider travelling?

Roy

oh yes, I would love to visit South America. ;)

Plenty of work down here for us, the only work I do in Dublin is for the out-laws and I do it quite begrudgedly. You'll get a good price up there if you shop around, get a few quotes, meet the installers, you'll get good or bad vibes.

Brilliant Davy ....LOL!!! Feel like heading to South America myself for a bit of R&R at this stage.

Having spoken to a couple of the Dublin Brigade so far and being told €240 per rad and €50-60 per TRV and the other guy telling me 4-5 days........... and both reciting long independent lists of all the problems they would encounter I don't share your optimism. Also I think I'm too old at this stage to spend too much of my life listening to lads giving me the run around :)

Thanks anyway - I really appreciate the advice, if you do have a name of anyone in Dublin I'd be grateful if you could PM me.
