Hi everyone,

Mrs Westgolf and myself recently adopted our gorgeous son, aged twenty months and she is at present on adoptive leave.

My query is this : we are taxed as a joint entity - or were when she was working - Is there anything we should do at this stage to give me more of the allowances, thus reducing my tax and increasing the take home or do we wait till the end of the year to try and recover some of the tax ?

Any/all comments welcomed

In theory, you can ask the Revenue to allocate your wifes tax credits to you.
However, I think I read here while ago that you cant do this late in the year, so it may be too late for this year.

You should ring the Revenue and ask. If it is not possible, ask for a balancing statement at the end of the year and you will get a rebate of all overpayments.

Dont forget to submit all your medical bills also, for tax relief on those.
