Personal Pension AVC

Apologies in advance as I am sure that this has been answered in this forum but I just can't find the answer!

I am not part of a company pension scheme but have a personal pension. I wish to make an AVC of say €1,000. As far as I can see I send this to my pension provider, my pension provider sends me a document that states how much I have contributed, and I then send this document to the Revenue. My question is: what happens next. Do the Revenue:
(a) send me a cheque for the tax that I am due back (in this case in the region of €410 (around 41% of €1,000)).
(b) or do the revenue send the amount that I am due in tax to the pension provider and they put this into my pension.

Thanks.

You are a bit confused.

You can only have an AVC if you contribute to an occupational pension.

What you are describing is simply a one-off lump-sum contribution to your private pension.

The answer is (a), the same way you have been getting your tax relief so far.
