I have €15,000 in one of these accounts earning 4.5% interest a year which is paid once a year every November.
I rang up yesterday to give 21 days notice to withdraw the money so that I don't get penalised on the interest.
After the 21 days I intend to open one of the New Anglo Premium Demand Account. and deposit the money there.
If I withdraw the entire balance before November, the bank told me I will lose the interest and that I will have to leave a minimum of €1,000 in the account on till then so that I can be paid any interest due.
I've checked the terms and conditions and cannot see any reference to been penalised for closing the account, after all it is not a fixed term account.
