I am on Maternity leave since August 2009 and am due back to work in 3 wks. I am a Civil servant.
Does anyone know can I claim back that pension related levy? I rang my salaries and they told me they dont know anything about it. They rang me back and told me as my mat benefit is paid directly to my employers I would have received tax benefit on the 280 part of it and thats all I am entitled to. I checked revenue site and cant see anything about pension levy. Is it really just a pay cut that I cant obviously claim back? Any help much appreciated

Yes the Pension Deduction is a pay cut or another way to tax the Public Service.....you will never see it again, how ever the income levy is a different thing which can be claimed back now, if you have a full med card, are over 65 yrs or earn under 286 a week.

also your maternity benefit is a different thing again, if you were paying tax while on mat leave you will get this back however some goverenment depts dont deduct tax at all while on mat leave...so hope this helps you as you seem to have the 3 things muddled.
