Paying Medical Expenses for a parent

My mother in her seventies and the old age pension is her only source of income.

She now needs to get cataracts done which is a very heavy cost..

If I pay the full cost can I reclaim the 20% tax relief and if so would the receipt have to be made out to my mother or can it be to me.
 
Yes and if you can get them made out to you all the better but if not just have a trail as in pay with a cheque from your account or online or draft or whatever once you can show the payment came from your funds.

There is also this scheme if you are within reasonable distance of border, pre Brexit of course! It may or may not apply but there are bus loads from my direction heading up north and having it done this way to avoid waiting lists.
