I was calling the revenue today about an unrelated issue and found out that I owe 2200 from2008 ..which they started deducting from mine and my husbands pay since jan 2014 ..I can't understand how this has happened and who I was speaking to in revenue Have only confused me more..
Is there anything I can do we are really struggling at the minute and can't afford this
 
Clearly you have not received any correspondence on this from your reaction.

You should request the balancing statement for 2008 and look at how the underpayment arose.
Do you have copies of your P60s to review.

The Revenue should have sent you a certificate of tax credit and standard rate cut off at the start of the year which would have included the restriction in you credits.
 
No received nothing from them..called them back 3 times got 3 different people
Who left me even more confused.found my last payslip from 2008 and my employer
Gave me a €990 tax refund in dec2008 ..but I persumed I had applied for a p21 for 2008 I'll have to try search the house for it ..I'm in a panic I had a good job in 2008 but have 3 babies now and about to leave work to care for them can't afford tis at all..didn't know they could go that far back looking for repayments
 
An underpayment remains on your record until it is paid. Did the tax cert issued in January 2014 indicate the reduction in tac credits?
 
Yeah I notched back In jan that the tax cert had a credit reduction for underpayment but I didnt know what it was for at the time
