Pay Increase - how to work out tax?

Hi,

I am asking for a pay increase, but I want to be able to work out my weekly income based on the new rate before I ask (no point increasing to just lose it in tax!)

I admit I am useless with numbers, but even having used an online calculator, I am not getting the correct figure even for my CURRENT rate of pay, so I'm totally lost.

I am asking to get €16.50 per hour. I work a basic 39 hour week. If someone can tell me what credit info is relevant I can provide that. Currently, I am being paid €15 per hour, and coming out with approx €480 per week after tax.

Using the deloitte online tax calculator,it shows current take home pay based on €15*39*52 as €489.
Is this close enough to your current take home?
On the same calculator,€16.5*39*52 gives €531 take home,so about 40 odd pay rise(if you get it!)

Thanks vandriver, my Weekly Cut Off is 659.96 and my tax credit (weekly) is 67. I had been using a different online calculator and it gave me completely mad results! Should have used the Deloitte one! That figure sounds realistic, thank you. Fingers crossed now!

assuming you're single, you still wouldn't quite hit the top rate of tax, and the increase doesn't affect your tax credits, so you'll lose 20% (PAYE) + 5.5% (USC) + 4% (PRSI) of any pay increase, meaning you'll see about 70% of the increase in your pay packet.

€1.5 * 39 * 0.705 = €41.24 extra per week

I don't think there's any circumstances under which a pay rise would see you lose money, but if you were receiving social welfare (like Family Income Supplement) it might affect that.
