Which makes most finanical sense? To put AVC into my HSE pension or put money into my personal pension which is with PTSB. I have rental income from two rented houses. I pay tax at the higher rate. Thanks.

You need to get advice from a financial advisor on this matter.

If you have an occupational pension, you can not also have a personal pension.

(Unless the rental income is pensionable??? Anybody comment on that???)

If you have an occupational pension with your employer, the HSE, then your options are usually:
  • buy notional service (missing years)
  • do an AVC with your employer's AVC scheme
  • do your own PRSA AVC

Just to clarify, I took out my personal pension through PTSB before I started with the HSE fiver years ago. I dont work for PTSB. Is that still ok.

Same as me.

I started a personal pension with Hibernian before I got a work pension.

I then stopped contributions to my personal pension, as you can't have a personal pension and an occupational pension.

My Hibernian personal pension is now "paid-up" and the lump of money is invested, sitting there until I retire.
