patio ground lights

hello there,
new member here with a question. i am installing ground lights in my patio. for to install them, i need to drill a 180mm hole in a patio slab. the chaps in the hire shop told me that using a core bit would shatter the slab straight away. is there any other alternative to drilling the hole?

got this sorted myself in the end. bought a slow running diamond tipped core drill from ebay. this does not use sds hammer action so wont shatter the slabs....
