Mine expired recently, so renewed it hoping I'd have it next week. Find it much handier to use for UK/Euro trips than full passport.

Took selfie at 10.01am yesterday, completed renewal online at 10.05 am, postie delivered new passport card at 8.45am today.

As they used to say in the Irish Times letters page - Is this a record?

Is this a record?

Fair dues to them all the same, some record alright.

I remember speaking to a girl whose partner worked in Passport Office back a few years and the staff had to use the side lane/back entrance to the office because of the harassment they were taking. It was also shown on the 6oc news at the time because of all the bad publicity.

I worked in both passport offices (citycentre and Balbriggan) at different times and attended all hands meetings when staff were arrested in dawn raids. And i didn't once hear of anyone in either place getting harassed by anyone on the way into the office.

I clearly remember an item on the 6oc news along with dreadful videos on Facebook where people were filming themselves outside the Passport Office. Some were trying to get passports for children for cheap holidays booked at the last minute and they were very loud about it.

I was in her company for a few days and it seemed to be a bad situation at that time for her partner.

See here.

You linked to a Google search which tells me nothing.

I could never understand the level of idiocy required to suddenly realise a passport was expired- or never existed- 2 days before a fflight.Or to book flights without having a passport already. But empty vessels do tend to make the most noise...

I think they’ve automated everything for adult renewals including AI matching of photos with previous likenesses. There’s no way of being that rapid with human involvement.

I was living abroad during the pandemic and child renewals took 6 weeks and that was only after I got an ambassador involved.

This is what came up on AI last night and its old info. It obviously, because its AI, does not come up on the link above unfortunately.

Reports indicate that staff at the Passport Office in Ireland are experiencing harassment from the public. This has led to concerns about the safety and well-being of employees, and the potential impact on service delivery. The Civil Service union (CPSU) has publicly addressed the issue, highlighting the unacceptable behavior directed at staff.

The harassment includes verbal abuse, threats, and other forms of intimidation, creating a hostile work environment. The Passport Office has faced significant challenges in recent years, including high demand and backlogs, which may contribute to public frustration. However, the CPSU emphasizes that this frustration should not be directed at staff who are working to process applications.

The CPSU has called for measures to protect its members, including improved security and support for staff dealing with difficult situations. The union also encourages members to report incidents of harassment and to seek support from their employer or through established procedures.

The situation highlights the broader issue of workplace harassment and the need for employers to create safe and respectful environments for all employees. It also underscores the importance of public awareness and understanding regarding the challenges faced by essential public services during periods of high demand.
