Hey I have a 4 yr old who is starting school in september and i really want to be there for her for the first 2 weeks of school to be able to collect her etc.

I know i am entitled to the unpaid parential leave however, i am only in my new job 5 weeks (boss does not seem to be very accomidating) i dont wan to put myself at a disadvantage job wise especially in this volitile market, but this is the only time she wil start school I dont want to miss it!

Any ideas on if im entitled to ask for it only just in the door? And how can i breach the subject without looking like im not giving 150% to my job (which appears to be what he wants)!!

Female and still on probation 6 month period

??

Could you just take annual leave - does your employer allow you to take leave you have yet to accumulate?

If your child is very near the age threshold and you have been working for your employer for more than three months but less than one year you are entitled to pro-rata parental leave. This is one week's leave for every month of employment completed. Your employer might not be happy, but you are entilted to ask

Very true sprite, but still entitled to ask even with less than one years service. Would also say that most employers are not clued up on the details of the act
