I would like to avail of parental leave but my understanding of the legislation is that you have to be 12 months in the job before requesting this leave. I started working for my current employer 3 months ago. Has anyone ever received approval for this leave sooner than 12 months after commencing a new job?
Maybe it's somehow linked to the legislation for unfair dismissals etc. which only comes in after you have 12 months served in the job or something? I doubt that many employers would grant parental leave after a mere 3 months in the job. Presumably you can see the inherent problems with this from their perspective?
