Hi. Looking for advise on parent renewal. Elderly mum age 92 currently on VHI Health plus choice at 2,720. In doing research I found Irish Life 4D Health 5 at 1,630.

I cannot see why she would not change but with such a difference in price at 1,090 have I missed something big

Any guidance most welcome

regards

Hi Chanterlands,

Welcome to AAM.

The main disadvantage with Irish Life plans is the 2000 co payment for hip or knee replacement surgery in private or hi-tech hospitals.
However, to get around that problem, the Blackrock Clinic Dublin do not pass this charge onto the patient. So if this surgery was required,
to avoid the 2000 charge, she would need to go to Blackrock Clinic for surgery.
To be honest, I think there would be a real reluctance to put a 92 year old through surgery of any kind unless it was unavoidable.
So, you are right to be shopping around for a better value plan, Healthplus Choice is over the top expensive.

There are cheaper plans available with Laya healthcare but if you want to go with Irish Life there is a better value plan '4D Health 4 @ price 1466.

Details as follows;
1. Irish Life 4D Health 4 plan; price 1466pa; all public, private(including private room) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess
50 euro per admission or day case procedure. There is no excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover included, 75% refund for
gp, consultants, etc. There is a 6 month waiting time applied to the extra day to day cover, she would stay on Healthplus Choice day to day
cover while waiting.

2. Laya Connect Simplicity; price 1329pa; all public, private(including private room) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess
150 x 2 max per year for all admissions(regardless of how many). Day case excess 100 per procedure. There is no excess to pay in any public
hospital. Good day to day cover on this plan, 50% refund for consultant visits, gp, etc. There is no waiting time with Laya for the extra day to
day cover, regardless of your age. Full cover for hip or knee replacement in any private or hi-tech hospital.

3. Laya Simplicity; price 1231pa; all public, private(including private room) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 100 x 2 max
per year for all admissions(regardless of how many), day case excess 50 per procedure. There is no excess to pay in any public hospital.
Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for gp, consultant etc - but the first 100 is not allowed. Full cover for hip or knee replacement
in a private or hi-tech hospital.

If private room cover in a private hospital is not too important, the following plan is worth considering, details as follows;
4. Laya Simply Connect; price 1100pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 150 x 2 max per year for
all admissions(regardless of how many), day case excess 50 per procedure. There is no excess to pay in any public hospital.
Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for gp, consultant etc,- subject to a max refund of 500 per year. Full cover for a hip or knee
replacement in a private or hi-tech hospital.
