anyone any idea on whether the panasonic brand is any good and in particular the 42 " plasma?

Panasonic are excellent manufacturers of large flat TVs, especially plasma's.

Google for the model number you are interested in - I am sure you will find a good review for it.

I do not yet own a flat TV, but I would buy Panasonic if I was buying. My brother bought a 42" plasma and its excellent.

Perhaps the brand isn't as hot as a Pioneer or Fujitsu in the plasma stakes, but when it comes to Sony, PHilips, Toshiba, Sharp etc then its up near the top.

Lots of info on [broken link removed].
Did some research and given my needs (Standard def TV, some movies, no video games), plus what I saw in the shops went down the panasonic route myself.

I agree with everyone above. I bought a Panasonic plasma 37" last year and a Panasonic LCD 26" for the bedroom. Both excellent sets. Plasma gives a better picture in my opinion.

Having been a Sony fan for many years this converted me to Panasonic.

Got mine from [broken link removed] Great service.

:D

I bought Panasonic Pv70 from alliance electric, was cheapest at the time. i had bought a sony 8 years back from same shop and found them very helpful. All I can say is i haven't looked back. Picture is stunning. Did a lot of research before I bought it on avforums e.t.c. and personally wouldn't consider any other brand. its a year old this month

Berbatov - just did a quick tally on the "Which LCD and Plasma TV Best Buys" and got the following:

Panasonic - 13
Sony - 7
Toshiba - 3
JVC - 1
Philips - 1
Pioneer - 2
LG - 1

So, overall Panasonic is producing the highest rated TV's right now and they also come third in reliability after Sony in second place and Samsung on top.

For the Panasonic Viera TH-42PX7 model Which said:

"This 42-inch Best Buy plasma from Panasonic has a lot going for it – it's easy to use and it boasts a host of features like audio description. But it's power hungry and while picture quality is well above average, it is short of the standards set by Panasonic's own LCD range of TVs.
But if you're determined to go for plasma bar a few sockets and fancy sounding features, this entry level model is almost as good as some of the pricier top of the range models.
