Painting the Exterior of our house - DIY - any tips....

Hi all,

Got a quote to paint our 3bed semi including - 8 window sills, 2 external doors - Cost 680 (labour incl VAT) and to do the power washing beforehand is 150 so all in 830 and then of course I have to buy the paint so I wont be out of it for 1000...............

Bottom line I cant afford it - we have to go DIY

Paint will still cost ??, and we have to get a hoist and power washer on hire which I have costed at 150/day

We will hire these over one day for washing and use ladders for painting.

Any tips on what not to do...?

I would hope to save maybe 500 (we might have outlays that we may not think of brushes, rollers, sheets ect) even to say 300 would be a big deal for me.

Any tips would be great.......

If powerwashing, you'll need to allow sufficient time for the building to dry out prior to painting. I've seen previous posts raise concerns with powerwashing driving water into the structure of a building. Painting over that then traps this moisture.
