Painting quote - Is this reasonable ?

Hi,

I got a guy out last week to quote for painting the inside of my parents house. It is a standard sized 4 bed semi.

  • Halls, stairs and landing.
  • Sitting Room.
  • Dining/Kitchen (which is tiled up to the underside of presses)
  • Sunroom (has a wooden ceiling, which is already stained)
  • All internal doors - approx 7-8 - which are already painted white and only about 3 of them are really bad - the others just have a few cracks/gaps in them.
  • Clean all external windowsills and paint white - approx 8 sills.
€2,100 including paint & materials. Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks for your help.

Looks like 7/8 days work (if ceilings included). My painter charges €120 per day but I pay for the paint & materials.

Labour = 1,025 approx.
Paint & Materials = 300 approx (will depend on brands, no of coats required etc)

This may give you a ballpark to work from (however i'm not in Dublin so labour may be cheaper where I live).

Is he painting all of the bedrooms and all of the Celings. If he is then I think it's a good price. If not then its a bit high.

I presume this also covers filling cracks/holes if necessary, sanding down, skirting and architraves?

Yes it includes filling any holes and cracks.

No, only the landing upstairs - none of the bedrooms are getting painted - only downstairs of house.

Thanks.

I know a guy who is very fast at painting, he gets tons done in a day. As soon as he walks into a job he starts painting. The reason he is so fast is he doesn't bother to do any preparation the job doesn't do any sanding nor filling nor keying of the surfaces. He's cheap though.

On the issue of the thread, the OP's quote looks fine to me even with the paint included

Case of you get what you pay for so.
