My brother has a quote to paint a 300 sqm house for €3000 euros (labour only).
The price includes putting up coving in the downstairs.

There is also a small amount of painting on the outside included in the price (the house is mainly cut stone on the outside, not requiring painting)

Does the quote sound reasonable ?

I suggested to him to paint his own house.
He is of the opinion that walls which have never been painted before require a high level of skill and technique to paint...
He thinks it needs a professional painter.... is he correct ?

friend of mine got her house spray painted white as the base coat and then painted what ever colours she wanted after - she said they did a great job and the tough work of the first coat was done. 2000sq foot house for €900 euro

Hi Louis,

Is timber work to be painted too? i.e. skirtings, internal doors, doorframes, banisters, front door, back door etc etc.

You say the price is for labour only - who is supplying the paint? you or painters and if it's the painters, where are they getting it and will they gaurantee that it won't be diluted??

Where are you based btw??

Getting my new build painted in Donegal.....285 sqm....3 coats to the internal walls only for 480 Stg.....Professional painter for over 20 years. I will pay for the paint separately at cost.

I dont know where you are but that seems very high to me.....get second or third quote!!

brother is buying the paint, the quote is labour only.
Based west of the shannon (to hell or to connaught).
Yep, he's going to paint everything that needs painting, inc skirting boards, ceilings and he is applying coving downstairs at the price

that sounds very cheap, how long would an average painter take to paint 3 coats in a 300sqm house ?

The painter says it will take 2 people (himself and another) 4 days at a total cost of 120 stg a day. Rates are obviously a lot lower in NI. The house has not had the second fix yet so he will do 2 coats and then come back and do the third and final coat to the walls when the second fix is complete. Seen his work and it is A1.

That's amazing value.
2 experienced people painting your house for not a lot more than minimum wage........that's a good outcome for you and not a great outcome for the painter.

My brother was of the opinion that 3000 to paint his 300sqm house was good value. Maybe he will seek other quotes.

I painted my own house and compared to other jobs I done during the build I quite enjoyed it.Although it is the first time the walls have been painted I do not think any more skill is needed,as for the timber work this can be a bit of a pain but my house came out very well .
