Just wondering if anyone could tell me how much it would cost to get a 4 bed semi detached house, with garage, painted on the outside?

in all fairness with no disrespect jimbobman ,thats not the question liamos asked.
liamos we got our house painted last aug. it cost us 1100euro ,its a four bed detached house no garage. not sure if this is any help to you.

we paid something similar last year excluding paint. Took about 4 days for 2 men and that was wooden fascia/soffet and attached garage too.

Yes. I'm not a professional painter and I would spot it straight away. You've probably seen very bad paint jobs - but the person doing it thought it was great. Likewise reasonably passable jobs. There is a skill to most thing like this. So if you just paint your house every five or six years - and if you're pretty adaptable - you'll leave a newly painted house, reasonably done.

why dont u do it urself

I have to ask jimbobman, why do you keep telling people to do it themselves? While I agree it's much more cost effective, not everyone is in a position to, have the time to or simply may not want to do the job themselves.

Why not cut your own hair? It might be a bit of hassle and you may not get the result you were looking for but it's possible right?

yeah but painting costs a lot of money which is very easy to do urself

grow your own vegetables?

A bit of a bizarre analogy - extremely easy to grow your own veg!

Preparation is the key with painting - in fact if you do it right, it usually takes a lot longer than the painting itself. Each to their own of course and I appreciate there may be time/fitness/whatever constraints but in general I think it's nuts to pay someone to do something as easy as painting.

Is the first coat on plaster (the primer) the most important coat ? I mean, if the first coat was poor, can it affect all subsequent coats ?

Not quite a professional would sand the walls to get all the lumpy bits down.

Within reason!

I disagree. It depends how you look at it.

The actual act of putting paint on wall you can say is easy.

Finding the time it takes to paint an entire house with a very busy full time job is not easy (unless I give up the little free time I have for the next few months). This is why such services exist, no?

If you have lots of free time then of course it would be easy

i would cut my own hair if i could
And, no doubt, you would think it looked as good as if a barber cut it. People here are asking for advice and giving advice. They don't neccasarily want to hear about your parsimonious ways.

On rereading the thread - yes. Two. One for the length of time and one for the cost

I did but got slapped on the hand by the moderator so am now sulking in the corner.....

"How much would it cost"? was the question. Didn't say whether this was money wise or time wise!!!!

I had a man suggest to me to get my outside, pebble dashed, spray-painted and he would have charged me €1500 this was including paint and wood work.

Didn't go for it because I didn't have the cash at the time.

I've seen his work and he seemed to know what he was about.
