Paint problem-help needed please
Hi there


Just built a new house...

Our Paint is reacting with the plaster and we are getting a raised mapping effect.

A painter I know and a paint shop we went to said it is too much Plaz in the plaster. Was wondering if you had ever heard of it. Builder playing ignorent.

Its like oil on the plaster and the emulsion only soaks in in places. Its a right disaster. Kitchen wall looks bad and we cant do the rest of the house untill we know what it is.

Its only on internal block walls like wall between kitchen and hall and kitchen and Sunroom.
Its like there is oil in the plaster.

Tried 4 coats on one wall but still happening

Any help would be great

Have you allowed the plaster to dry out before attempting to paint?


Did you water down the first coat of emulsion? (40% water to emulsion)

Is there any chance the paint brush or roller may have been used previousley for an oil based paint and therefore contaminating the emulsion now being put on?
 
Only thing is we didn't water down the emulsion. Same stuff was used all upstairs and its fine up there.
All new rollers and only used on emulsion.
The mapping thing isn't all over the down stairs walls. Only in patches. One half of the kitchen wall is fine.​

brush on milk, it helps to neutralise the reaction, also i have a feeling there is another product out there that can be brushed on which helps/prevents that reaction, i have normally seen it on the window lintols.

think you need some kind of base coat or something
