Received a PAYE Balancing Statement today for 2008, as expected it showed that the Final Result was balanced i.e. Zero.

Now when I look at the breakdown calculation for my Income I can see my deposit interest, however they have also included a figure in my income for DSFA Carers Income.

Now I did receive Carers Benefit in 2006 and part of 2007, which my accountant included on my returns for those years.

For 2008 my only taxable income as such was deposit interest, I don't claim social welfare. (I did have a cgt liability for the year 2008, which I paid on deposit to revenue last year and was included on my return this year, I believe I will receive a seperate notice of assessment for this).By including this mystery figure for carers income together with Deposit Interest and then calculating at 20%, it happens to equal the same figure as my tax credits on the statement.

Do I need to contact Revenue, the end result is the same i.e. Zero Balance.

It is normal practice for the tax office to reduce your tax credits accordingly , in order to issue a balancing statement , where there is no tax liability - and where your total income for tax year is less than your total tax credits .
