I recently requested a tax refund due to a e550 dental bill.I received the P21 balancing statement showing an underpayment of e131 instead of the expected refund of e110 (ie 20% of e550).
My wife was paid on the 30th December which was the 27th payday of the year as she is paid fortnightly.
My question is, Do the revenue know that a company has used this fortnight 27/week 53 clause or do I have to ring them up to get the 2 extra weeks tax credits to force the due refund

Simple really, she is paid on a Thursday for work done up to the Sunday,so last year the first payslip was dated Jan 1st,and the 27th payslip was December 30th.

Ok my bad, seems that there a 54 weeks in a year. Back to school for me.

With the 53 week year the employer ticks a box to indicate the 53 weeks when filing the P35. It should be on the P60. If its not then contact the payroll dept and get them to give you a letter stating that it was a 27 week year. Ring Revenue and tell them that you will send in the letter.
