Overpaid CGT by mistake

Hello, I sold some shares earlier this year and when paying the cgt I stupidly calculated it on the full proceeds minus €1270, rather than on the actual gain I made minus €1270

The money has already been taken out of my account, will I have to wait until next year to get it back as that is when the CGT paper work will be filed?

thank you

No. Assuming we’re talking about a 2020 gain here, just submit your tax return in January 2021 and you’ll get the money back. It might be trickier if you owe income tax separately.

Yeah it’s a 2020 gain, I’ll ask my accountant as he is doing my returns this year, thanks
