options for renting an AH (affordable housing) in D9.

IF the council i have my AH with allow me to rent the house what would be the best way to go?

I honestly think the only options open to me are rent allowance tennants or RAS. I can't see cash paying tennants wanting to rent in the area my house is in (dublin 11).

I've been going on to daft.ie a lot lately and there's seems to be a lot of houses available to rent on it in the same area my house is in,they're all in or around the same monthly rental as i would be looking for. The fact that there are so many houses available in this area would suggest to me that people simply aren't interested in renting there.

I've been reading up on rent allowance and RAS and there seems to be pros and cons to both, I'd appreciate any feedback people on here might have who have had experience of one or both?

I'm a complete newbie to renting and just discovered this site, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Im not being smart but why dont you just live in your AH house? Wasnt that the purpose of the scheme?

Sorry aj,probably should've said,I've been living in the house for the last 4 yrs but I simply cannot afford the mortgage any more.if the council don't allow me to rent it I will have to sell it and I would prefer not to have to do that.
I have tried to find someone to rent a room in my house but it is proving impossible..

I think if there are houses available in the area, it means there is a rental market for such houses and it's a good thing for you

I'd suggest viewing a few of these properties (as if you are thinking of renting) to get a feel of the quality (or lack of it) being offered by other landlords and then making your house more appealing (it doesn't need to cost a lot, just tidy, de-clutter and add a few nice touches) and price it a little bit below the rent for similar houses.
