Been left some money by a US relative and would like to leave it a US account with a view to using it on the occasional visit.

How easy is it to open a US account?

Can anyone give me a list of banks in Florida that I can contact?

If you have a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) and an US address any bank will do.

If you don't have at least an US address you will need to look at internatinonal banking as most banks don't want to deal with non-residents (W8-BEN forms etc.) due to regulations of the Patriot Act.

These banks offer good international service:

A good way is to get a ITIN (see http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96287,00.html) and a us address (search in google for a mail forwarding provider).

Than Citibank or Bank of America will open you a bank account in which you can park the money.

Thanks for this.

I'll contact both to see if they can do the needful.

Anybody know where I can get a list of banks in Florida?

Well if you go to google and enter florida banks into the text box you get the following list:

The item on the top of the list seems to offer a good selection broken down by area. Don't forget coast-to-coast national banks also like

Good luck.
