Can anyone tell me what the situation is as regards Tax etc if you earn cash online eg completing surveys for US Companies?

I haven't started working yet just researching but I will be paid money into my bank account as far as I know, why? what are the options for cash? vouchers?

If you are being paid cash for work done online you will have to complete a W8 Form which basically gives you an exemption from paying US taxes & covers the company who you are paying you as regards them not stopping tax from you for the US IRS. It’s up to you to declare anything earned to Revenue Commissioners if appropriate in your particular situation.

Be very wary of signing up for any of these sites, as generally if they require you to pay them a fee to start it’s more than likely going to end in tears. Quite a lot of these sites advertise that you pay them a fee to do surveys, but what you actually get is a list of companies that you can apply to do online surveys. Quite a lot of the companies on these lists will only accept applicants from within the US.

So I would advise you to do plenty of research beforehand if you are required to pay any upfront money, or commit to a regular fee.

If you still feel you want to go ahead instead of signing up for one of these survey sites from an affiliate site you should consider signing up to clickbank as an affiliate yourself, go to the marketplace & sign up for whatever site using your own affiliate link. That way at least you will earn the commission instead of someone else. Make sure you clear all previous cookies from your pc before you do this....

Be careful, & just bear in mind why would anyone want you to pay them to work for them.

I second what Papercut has said. Be abolutely clear that anything you are signing up for is above board and not a scam. It happens, unfortunately. The following is an extract from a recent publication on fraud:

'Fraudsters contact victims with ‘job vacancy’ ads on the internet, on job vacancy websites or on the papers. The only requirement for the job is for the victim to have a bank account. Once recruited, a ‘money mule’ receives stolen money into their account, followed by a request to forward the funds, minus their commission, usually overseas.
Ø Thoroughly research any work-from home job offer and do not get involved unless sure that it is legitimate.
Ø If a job sounds too good to be true, it probably is'.
