Online site holding credit card details?

Anyone know if you register with a site and buy something, but they cant deliver for some time (e.g. not in stock), where are your CC details stored?

I remember reading recently about online merchant regulations require that no CC details are stored on the retailers servers but is this always the case?

There may be guidelines on how they are expected to store the details although this would depend on where they are based. There isn't a regulation that applies to ALL 'online merchants'. As to whether these guidelines are followed where they exist is another matter.

Amazon store your CC details to allow the card to be reused for futher purchases and to charge you when the transaction completes, and in my experience many others I have dealt with also do.
