Thinking of laying oak floors through living room, kitchen and sun room....does this sound like a good idea. Its a new build dont have any kids nor pets and not planning on having any. Main concern is the kitchen...would it be a good idea. Any help much appreciated.

I've done this, solid oak. Put a small mat in front of kitchen sink to catch any drops. I didn't have the nerve to install a dishwasher as was afraid of leakage, but I believe you can get them with anti flood devices. The floor looks really well when you move from one room to another. Even though the kitchen is south facing it's not very bright, i think the floor is absorbing some light vs say if had shiny cream tiles to reflect it.

Have two young children and a dishwasher! in my kitchen with oak floor throughout. There is an anti flood device fitted to the dishwasher (Bosch) but as there would be a risk from other fittings under the sink I have a 6 euro flood alarm and also a flood detector connected to alarm system.

18 months after moving in the floor looks nearly a good as the day it went in.

I put down oak floors throughout the entire downstairs a few months ago and love it. Have a dishwasher with flood alarm/protection. Easy to maintan so far. Our floors are oiled so I imagine we will just re-oil them ina year or two if needed.

Davidoco, can I ask where you got the 6euro flood alarms? Better to be safe...
