can someone please confirm my understanding of this.

nursing home tax relief is 41%. I'd be paying 810euro per week fees. Am I correct is calculating that the relief is 332euro per week and I'd apply through Med 1.

is there any PRSI/USC relief?

is there any upper limit on amount of relief (ie max relief per year would be 17,264euro )

thanks

USC Relief

I would also be interested in USC Relief.

Currently someone in a nursing home or having home help has to pay 2% USC on their first 10,036 and 4% on the balance of their non dept of social protection income.
At least the person in a nursing home can apply for the fair deal scheme but the person who wants to be looked after at home and pays for this privately still can have a fair chunk taken out of their income to pay USC.

With the USC charge a person may be better off entering a nursing home

@thesimpsons, the relief is available at your marginal rate of tax. If you are earning over €40k at the higher rate then the refund will be as you calculated if you don't then it will be the amount of tax paid.

I'm not aware of any PRSI/USC relief.

thanks for that Joe_90. ya I'm on more than 40k and on higher rate of tax. we aren't in this situation yet but just trying to play for not too distant future.
