I got a flyer from NTL saying they were offering the NTL recorder option for an extra €5 a month. Has anyone got it is it worth it? Does it only cost this as I do not really trust NTL- do they have the interactive stuff working yet?

The recorder is good - but not as good as Sky+
You cannot set it record a series
Just a set time each day
It's €5 a month - for ever! you just rent as opposed to buying with Sky

I'm quite happy with it as I cant get Sky where I live - and I do not know of any interactive stuff on NTL/Chorus at the moment

I got it a few months ago. You get a new digital box to replace your old digital box. It takes about thirty seconds to bring up the "guide" whenever you want to change channels and there is no interactivity.

You can freeze live tv and also rewind live tv (to the point where you started atching that channel) - neither of which were known by the guy who installed the new box. In fact he seemed to be quite unaware of what it could do.

You can record a good load of programmes up to a week in advance which is great but you cannot set it to record a series as you can with sky plus.

There is an option whereby you can set it to record the same channel at the same time every week. I set this up for Lost Sky One Sundays 9-10 pm and it worked but when Lost went on a break I couldn't find an option to cancel this so I'm still set up to record Sky One 9-10 pm on Sundays. Whenever i think of it I go and delete the following Sundays scheduled recording but it still pops up again to record the following week. If anyone has a solution to this please let me know. There's nothing I can see in the instructions

(Just saw when I posted that Mik had posted a lot of what I've said when I was writing my post)

I think it's pretty good, and half price for the first 6 months, so plenty of time to test.

I wish magnet would introduce something like this. Recording from them is a nightmare because the box either fails to change the channel or crashes.

Can you flick thru the channels using +/- buttons or do you have to bring up the guide?

Do they give you a manual with it?

It seems like a good enough deal at 60euro /yr, as Harddrive DVD recorders are still 300e. With the rate technology is changing we will probably have something new again in 3yrs so it may be cheaper to rent

thing I love about me sky plus is if I forget to set something to record I can either send a text to the box or go online anywhere and send a message to the box to record what I want. love this feature.

Yes you can flick through channels but there is a very useful on screen guide which you need to get up if you are going to record programmes (or plan your evenings viewing)

There is an instruction sheet that comes with it which is fairly basic but probably all you need (except it doesn't say how to cancel recordings you've set to happen every week as I mentioned above)

All in all I'd recomend it though.
