NPPR PENALTY

Hi all

Just informed that I have a massive NPPR penalty on a house I lived in but then rented. I renting myself and thought I could nominate a PPR as I was renting.

Any way I can appeal this or get it reduced? Genuine error on my part.

alas, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Best thing would be to approach Revenue and see if something can be agreed.

You should consider getting proper legal or tax advice before you approach either Revenue or a local authority with your hands up. If you rented the entire property without retaining a right to live there in at least one room, you're probably snookered but its high stakes and it may be worth doing your homework.
