Notice period to Landlord when no lease agreement signed

I have been renting since 2002 and signed a one year contract at the time.

I had no lease for a few years and was given a new lease agreement earlier in the year but didn’t sign it as:

  • There was lease or notice periods (my old one had one month notice).
  • Due date for rent was incorrect
  • Joint lease with my flat mate – I rented independently and am not interested in a joint lease.
My flatmate signed it and didn’t cross out my name. I meant to ring the Landlord but forgot.

I am now moving out and wonder what sort of notice period I have to give him.

I would presume you would still give him a months notice. If you have been there since 2002 I think the least you can give him is a month.

I would call him and explain that you are leaving. Did he not call you to ask why you did not sign the lease?

Hi,

For a tenancy of more than 2 years I believe the landlord is legally entitled to 56 days notice. (See link below) But he may accept less.
