Notice period - another question

Hi all,
It says on my contract I am required to give one months notice to terminate my employment.

If I handed in my notice as 3 weeks I know I would be in breach of my contract but what exactly would my employer do?

If I'm due a weeks holidays I could work 3 weeks and the 4th week would be a weeks holiday so I could start work with the other company then?

Provided your contract allows you to take a week's holiday with just three weeks' notice, then yes, you would be fulfilling your contract and could start your new job on time.
 
you could give your four weeks notice indicating that you will be taking annual leave the last week,,,,,,,,,, its the same thing really.. Most employers would generally allow this as they would have to pay you for any holidays owed. you will not recieve your P45 until after your weeks holidays

In reality there's nothing they will do, but if you leave on bad terms don't forget you might need a reference from them at some stage in the future!
 
You can use annual leave due as part of your notice period. I can't see any employer having a problem with that.

Yes you can, it's your own business what you do at this stage.
 
A point to note - a lot of companies will not allow you to take annual leave as part of your notice and they don't have to. Any company i've ever worked for has had this policy.

They have to pay you for leave due, of allow you to take it, before you go.
 
If you need to get off earlier why not try something like this:

I urgently needed a few days off work, but I knew the
Boss would not allow me to take leave. I thought that
maybe if I acted "CRAZY" then he would tell me to take a
few days off. So I hung upside-down on the ceiling and
made funny noises.

My co-worker (who's blonde) asked me what I was doing.

I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb so
that the Boss might think I was "CRAZY" and give me a
few days off.
A few minutes later the Boss came into the office and
asked "What in the name of god are you doing?"
I told him I was a light bulb. He said "You are clearly
stressed out. Go home and recuperate for a couple of
days".
I jumped down and walked out of the office.
When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me, the Boss
asked her "...And where do you think you're going?"

She said, "I'm going home too, I can't work in the dark!
