Non payment of wages

Just thought i'd post this in here to see if anyone has any ideas.

I had a knock on my door last night from my Polish neighbour. He asked me for the tel number of the Ombudsman??. I asked him to clarify as I thought there are many different types. He went on to tell me that he had not been paid his weeks wages by his employer and that he had gone to the guards. The guards said they could not help him but to contact the Ombudsman, when he asked the guards for the number he was told to get it in the book.

I have really no idea how to help this guy. He has reasonably good English. Should he go to an Ombudsman or is there somewhere else I can direct him to.

He should contact these guys as a first step. He should also consider contacting SIPTU or any trade union (regardless of whether he is currently a member), Joe Higgins TD (who did great work on the GAMA scandal), Joe Duffy RTE.

Thanks Rainyday for that. Yes the Dept of Trade and Enterprise were very helpful and sending out forms for him to raise his complaint.
