No work available due to weather - payment?

Hi all, my partner is working with trucks etc, boss said no work tomorrow due to weather - is he entitled to a days pay ????

Depends on the terms and conditions of his employment really.

If he's an employee then the presumption would be yes, if he's self-employed and 'contracts' himself out for driving then probably not.

Thanks for your reply, yes hes an employee has no contract of employment.

he should be paid so, i'm not sure how great hauliers are as an industry at observing the niceties of employment law though (well i am sure that they're not!)

his boss could ask the employees to take a days holiday leave instead but they would be entitled to refuse, however should jobs have to go it's likely those who didn't toe the party line might be first in line for the exit door.
