For the last few days, when I switch on TV it takes about 10 minutes before the sound comes on. Its a 10 year old Mitsubishi, so is something giving up?? Is it worth the cost of trying to repair it?

If there is a headphone socket you can use this to test if it is a problem with the speakers.
No. Newer technology LCD or Plasma TVs have come way down in price in the last year. Spend some time finding out which format you prefer and the best possible prices (check out internet sites also).
My 7 yr old Mitsubishi Black Diamond 28" CRT broke down 2 weeks ago - picture gone followed by sound. Left it in for repair, cost €130.....a bit cheaper than a decent 28" LCD/Plasma?
The repair shop said that Black Diamond TVs tend to blow capacitors/transistors, but once replaced should last many years.
The shop charge €40 for investigating the problem and giving a repair estimate, so you can decide if it's worth repairing (amount deducted from repair cost if you go ahead with repair).
