We're getting new windows installed in our house. The company that's installing the windows have said that they'll remove the sensors from the old windows but that they won't be able to re-fit them to the new windows. We'll have to get an alarm company to do this.
Do I have to use the company that installed the alarm to do this or can I get some quotes from different alarm companies?
You may need the "engineer code" for your alarm before anyone removes the sensors - as I found out several years ago when I had windows replaced! If the alarm isn't in "engineer" or "maintenance" mode, the alarm could go off if the sensors are touched.
If you haven't got the code, you'll probably have to go back to whoever installed it for you.
you might just get away with doing it yourself....
Normal sensors if you don't use a tamper will have 2 wires in them. When you disconnect them from the sensor, connect them together to close the loop. DO this for every sensor you have to remove.
Make a note of what wires were on each terminal before you remove them and install them again the same way. When you have the wires closed, your alarm shoudl still arm but you will not have monitoring at that window until the new sensor goes in...
