I have a conventional salt based water softner solution which is 4 years old. I use an external salt container and put salt like AXAL salt PRO in it to reduce limescale for whole house. I was told that this type of main water softners are harmfull to body on long term use. Also there is chance of fungal buildup etc.

Do any of the companies provide alternative new generation main water descaling (limescale remover) solution at a reasonable cost?

Any suggestions?
 
Which system do you have? First time I hear it, and we’ve had actually just recently got installed Clark water softener which is programmed to clean itself every 7 days or X amount of water processed.
 
You are not supposed to use water from water softener for drinking , you should have a separate line for drinking water that doesn't go through water softener, water softeners are to stop build up of lime in heating system
 
I am not using water from water softener for drinking. I have a separate reverse osmosis system for that.

Water conditioner is to reduce limescale for washing, bathing etc
 
I just googled "Water Softner Drawbacks" and extract from one of the search results below.

Disadvantages of home water softening:
• Can corrode your pipes. The corroded metal from the pipes can end up in your water. This can contribute to elevated lead and copper levels in drinking water.
• Potential health effects from additional sodium.
• Regular testing of the water and maintenance of the softener is necessary to make sure the softener is working properly.
• Negative impacts to the environment from salt use.
• The water used to regenerate the softener beads ends up as waste.

Just add fungal top the search and you will get results for that as well.
 
Don't ever trust Dr Google. If you have some creditable source for concerns post them here, otherwise I wouldn't pay any attention to what you read on Google.
FWIW we have a Decalux water softener for 14 years now and no issues with it.
