New single parent

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone could give me a little bit of advice before approaching the social. I'm a newly single parent with one son. My problem is my boyfriend and I were renting and now that he's moved out, I don't know where that leaves me. I'm currently on job seekers and will probably move to one parent family. I'm just wondering if there's any option for me to keep renting the house I'm in now. I can't afford it on my own but wondering would I be entitled to rent allowance or anything. It's such a stress as I really don't want to leave my home Thanks all.

Rent Supplement will only be granted if the rent you're paying is on or below the maximum rent limit for your area - if it's more than the limit, you won't qualify.

There are other rules as well - you must have been renting for 6 months or you must have been assessed for a housing need by the local authority and be on their list.

You'll find the maximum rent limits here:
Maximum Rent Limits June 2009

You can apply for One Parent Family Payment at the office where you sign on for Jobseeker's. If you're on Jobseeker's Benefit, you may be entitled to half-rate benefit after your One Parent Family Payment comes through.

also if you happen to pick up work you will be entitled to family income supplement and you should ask about fuel allowance and what about child maintenance ? they will make you look for that from the father of your child
